Commercial Bird Netting Cost Guide
The factors that set the price of a professional netting installation — and how to compare quotes line by line.
How Commercial Bird Netting Is Priced
Facility managers often get one netting quote and wonder whether the price is high. Commercial netting is a custom installation: a crew engineers a tensioned perimeter, attaches it to your structure, and closes off a space so birds physically cannot get in. The price reflects that scope, not just the net itself.
We do not publish a flat per-square-foot price because two areas of the same size can be very different jobs. Here is what actually moves the number.
The Seven Cost Factors
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Area closed off | More square footage means more mesh, more perimeter cable, and more labor. |
| Height & access | Scissor lifts, boom lifts, or rope access add equipment and setup time. Ground-level docks cost less than 40-foot rafters. |
| Attachment structure | Steel, concrete, masonry, and wood each need different fasteners and drilling time. |
| Mesh & species | Smaller mesh for sparrows and starlings, heavier mesh for gulls and pigeons. |
| Cleanup first | Droppings and nests must be removed and the area sanitized before netting goes up. |
| Work rules | Food plants, airports, and occupied retail often require after-hours work or extra safety procedures. |
| Access panels & warranty | Zippers for lights, sprinklers, and signs, plus a workmanship warranty, keep the system working. |
How to Compare Bird Netting Quotes
- Is the mesh UV-stabilized and sized for the bird species on site?
- Is there a tensioned stainless perimeter cable, or is the net stapled or tied?
- Are access zippers included where staff need to reach lights or equipment?
- Is cleanup and disinfection included or priced separately?
- Who installs it — trained employees or subcontractors?
- What does the warranty cover, and for how long?
When Netting Is — and Isn't — the Right Spend
Netting earns its cost on large covered areas where birds roost or nest: canopies, loading docks, open-door warehouses, parking structures, and courtyards. On a single ledge or sign, spikes, bird wire, or shock track are often the better value. A good assessment should tell you which areas need netting and which do not.
